Nokia Open Studio @LIFT08

One of the presentations at LIFT08 that hit me the most was this presentation by Younghee Jung, Senior Design Manager at Nokia. She presented Nokia Open Studio, a great project in which local communities in three parts of the world participated in a design competition. Design competitions were organised in a Favela in Rio de Janeiro, a refugee town near Accra and a community in Mumbai. Local communities were invited to design the phone of their dreams. The great thing about the outcomes were that you could really see the local cultures reflected in the designs that were posted. Local challenges like weather, criminality or lack of money found their way in design features of the phones.

This keynote offers great insight in the importance of getting in touch with communities. Of course from a crowdsourcing perspective I am highly interested in what the implications of this would be when taking this online. Culture on the internet might be not that diversified as the cases in Open Studio, but when approaching communities culture will definitely be important.

BTW: LIFT08 was awesome! We’ll be posting some more videos here once we’ve digested all inspiration. I have rarely seen so much interesting people gathered at one place.

НЕ в тему немного, но радует, что автор к блогу не просто тупо взял какую то тему для Вордпресса, а сделал что то свое и вкладывает в это дело душу.
